It all started with bamboo shoots from Yawata, the local area. 'Nakari history'
Following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, canned goods were included in the relief supplies sent from the United States, marking the beginning of the widespread adoption of canned food in Japan. In 1925, with the desire to share the fresh and delicious bamboo shoots of Yawata with as many people as possible, we began manufacturing canned boiled bamboo shoots.
Nearly 50 years prior, Thomas Edison invented the carbon incandescent light bulb, a revolution in lighting technology. The filament material for his incandescent bulb came from bamboo grown at the Yawata Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine. We and Edison were connected by a strange link: canned food and bamboo.
